Notes on Rules

We play by USGA rules for all events. This is tournament golf. That means all putts must be holed out and the ball is played as it lies. To help speed up pace of play make sure that you hit a provisional ball when necessary. Keep your score cards legible. Illegible cards may have to be disqualified. If there is ever a question on an rules interpretation, hit an optional second ball, and come back to the club house at the end of your most current nine holes with members of your group to get a ruling by the course professional. All laser and GPS sighting devices are allowed in our tournaments. If there are any local rules that we are playing in our tournament they will be printed up and placed for distribution on the registration desk. Please take just one copy of the printed local rules per foursome and make sure they are read by your entire foursome before the tournament starts. Occasionally the weather will be such that we will have to play with a "lift, clean, and replace rule" and this will either be announced at the beginning of each shotgun start or be printed up with the local rules. It is your individual responsibility to have an understanding of all local rules before you start play. If you see someone not playing by what you consider the rules of golf please report this to one of the IESGA officers. That player will have a chance to give his "side of the story", but ultimately the board will make a decision in accordance with USGA The Rules Of Golf 2010-2011 and/or the published printed local rules. We have rulebooks for all players that will be available at the registration table at the first few tournaments of the year, and if you need one, please see, call, or email Lee Spencer.

Notes on Entries, Due Dates, and Tee Times

To Get Your Tee Time: Go to our web site: www.iesga.com..  You can get tee times, information, scores, skins results, applications, bylaws and much more. Tee times are generally posted the Friday or Saturday morning before the tournament. If you can’t get your tee time from the internet then call the course where the tournament will be played.  We post the tee times about three days before the actual tournament.  Should you need to withdraw from a tournament please call Lee Spencer at 991-3063 to withdraw and Mel Hamilton at 624-4758 for a refund.  Please note that late withdraws cause problems for your foursome and scheduling.  Also, starting this year 2010 we will definitely not be accepting late entries, the due date will be strictly enforced..

The IESGA sponsors the Team Best Ball awards with $100/event for the winning team.

FROM THE HANDICAP CHAIRMAN'S DESK

For those new members (and for the old members who may have forgotten) here is how the IESGA Handicap System works. New members with a GHIN Index will use their USGA Index for the first 3 tournaments. But, new members without an established GHIN Index will use the Callaway System for the first 3 tournaments. You will not be placed in a flight (1-4) until after your Callaway system handicap is figured at the completion of your round. Therefore, you will not be eligible for one of the four closest to the pin awards in that round..

After a member has played 3 tournaments handicaps are computed as follows: Average the 2 lowest differentials, (a “differential” is the difference between a players “Adjusted Score” using stroke control and the rating of the course played).Average the 2 lowest differentials and multiply by .96. The closest whole number is the handicap. After a member has played 4 tournaments, average the 2 lowest differentials and multiply  by .96. The closest whole number is the handicap. After a member has played 5 tournaments, average the 3 lowest differentials, and multiply by .96, the closest whole number is the handicap.

Stroke Control is based on the Rated Handicap of each hole as noted on the score card.  For a “Scratch” or “Plus” handicap player, no score more than 1 over par is used. For players with handicaps 1 through 18 no more than two strokes over par is used for the number of holes equal to the handicap. For handicaps 19 and above 3 strokes over par is used for the number of holes equal to the handicap and 2 strokes over par for the balance.

To figure the team Best Ball the scorer will proceed as follows: a player with a 10 handicap is allowed 1 stroke off each of the first 10 handicap holes. A player with a 23 handicap is allowed 2 strokes off the first 5 handicap holes and 1 stroke off the balance. The score for the fifth member of a fivesome will not be used for the Best Ball score.
